Deep Tissue Massage - A Guideline for the First-Timers


Everything starts from scratch. Even treatment has it's ground zero'. Thus, when it comes to taking deep tissue massage, it's one thing for the seasoned ones, and it's something else for the first-timers. Thus, if you are opting for DTM for the first time, you have to go through a few steps - to start with!

Discussing it with your Therapist:

Like every other treatment, the first-timers have to go through an elaborate discussion with the therapist. You need to discuss your aspirations and take note of what you should expect out of the sessions you will be going through.

The therapist who will be conducting the deep tissue massage in Perth will explain you the details of the process and the effect it is likely to have on your body, in the short as well as long run. Also, you will have to put down your signature on a Consent Form, which in most cases, is a legal requirement.

Preparing your Muscles

Once the initial brainstorming has been done, the therapist will, in most cases, commence with the first step. The first step is all about warming up your tissues and muscles with the application of oil. Besides, the professional will also start applying light pressure on the areas to be worked upon.

Stripping

Hold your breath!! This has nothing to do with what you might have thought. This is a technique that involves the use of thumbs are knuckles, elbows and forearms. As and when it is done, you will be feeling a gentle gliding pressure, along your muscular fibres.

Friction

At this stage, the therapist will apply pressure across your muscular grains, with the objective of realigning the tissue fibres of your muscles and releasing the adhesions (presence of rigid tissue) that might be causing discomfort. 

Here, if you are a first-timer, you might feel a certain extent of discomfort. Now, this is a natural phenomenon, and you should not be worried at all.

You must remember the sole objective of deep tissue massage therapy is to break down the muscular tension, adhesions as well as the scar tissues, which are often located in the deeper layer of musculature. Thus, that objective will not be accomplished if adequate pressure is not applied.

In fact, that is the reason, you might feel a certain degree of discomfort, as and when you have the massage conducted for the first time. However, this discomfort will waive off with time, and the subsequent sessions will not cause you any discomfort.
